Anything less than having Greenland is ‘unacceptable’: Trump

US President Donald Trump has renewed his push for the United States to take control of Greenland, calling it a national security necessity and warning that any alternative arrangement would be “unacceptable.”

In his latest post on Truth Social, Trump said the US needs Greenland for national security purposes, particularly for the “Golden Dome” defence system, and argued that NATO would be far more effective with the strategically located island under American control.

Trump warned that if the US does not secure Greenland, Russia or China could move in, a scenario he said “is not going to happen.” He also asserted that NATO’s military strength depends heavily on US power, claiming the alliance would not be an effective deterrent without Washington’s leadership.

Backing Trump’s remarks, a White House spokesperson recently said that acquiring Greenland is a national security priority in the Arctic and that the use of the US military remains an option. Trump has maintained that ownership, not leases, is essential for defending Greenland.
