Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday that the Gauhati High Court has approved the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the death of renowned singer Zubeen Garg.
The commission will be headed by Justice Soumitra Saikia and is scheduled to be constituted on Saturday. Sarma urged the public to come forward with any information or evidence related to Garg’s death.
Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19 in Singapore, a day before he was set to perform at the North East India Festival.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested four individuals in connection with his death, including his manager Siddharth Sharma and festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta.
The CID is expanding its probe, and financial irregularities related to the festival are also under investigation.
The Assam government has also requested legal cooperation from Singapore through the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) to facilitate the investigation.
The judicial commission’s formation underscores the state’s commitment to a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Zubeen Garg’s untimely death.
