As per the official data released by Bangladesh’s interim government on Monday, the country reported numerous incidents involving minority communities and the overall law-and-order situation in 2025.
According to the year-long review of police records from January to December 2025, a total of 645 incidents involving minority communities were recorded across Bangladesh.
The data was compiled from verified First Information Reports, General Diaries, charge sheets and investigation updates, and was shared by Yunus on social media.
Majority incidents termed non-communal
The government said that of the total cases, 71 were identified as having communal elements, while 574 incidents were assessed as non-communal in nature.
Communal incidents largely involved vandalism or desecration of religious sites and idols, along with a limited number of other offences.
In contrast, the statement said most cases affecting minorities stemmed from criminal activities unrelated to religion, including neighbourhood disputes, land conflicts, political rivalries, theft, sexual violence and personal enmity.
India has repeatedly raised concerns over violence against minorities in Bangladesh. In December, the Ministry of External Affairs condemned the killing of a Hindu youth in Mymensingh, stating that those responsible must be brought to justice.
