B’desh violence: Father of lynched Hindu man recounts attack, seeks justice

The father of a Hindu man lynched by a mob in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh district has spoken out, describing the killing as “horrible” and alleging a lack of assurance from the authorities.

The victim, 27-year-old Dipu Chandra Das, was killed on Friday amid widespread unrest following the death of youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi.

Speaking to NDTV, Dipu’s father, Ravilal Das, said his son was beaten, tied to a tree, doused with kerosene and set on fire.

He added that the family first learnt about the incident through social media and neighbours. “No one from the government has given any assurance,” he said.

Bangladesh’s interim chief adviser Muhammad Yunus said seven people have been arrested in connection with the lynching, while the administration condemned the killing.

Violence erupted across the country after Hadi’s death, with protests taking on anti-India overtones and attacks reported near Indian diplomatic missions and media offices, raising concerns over the deteriorating security situation.
