The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday disposed of a petition filed by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) seeking protection of confidential political data allegedly seized by the Enforcement Directorate(ED) during searches linked to I-PAC head Prateek Jain.
The court passed the order after the ED submitted that it had seized no documents or data from Jain’s residence or office during the searches conducted on January 8.
Appearing for the central agency, Additional Solicitor General S.C. Raju told the bench that the ED had not taken custody of any records and argued that the relief sought by the TMC could not be granted on that basis.
Raju also sought an adjournment, informing the court that a similar plea filed by the ED was pending before the Supreme Court. He further contended that any records referred to by the TMC were not seized by the agency.
TMC counsel Menaka Guruswamy said the party’s plea was limited to seeking protection of its data.
