The Government of Canada has officially designated the Lawrence Bishnoi gang as a terrorist entity under the Criminal Code, citing its role in orchestrating violence, extortion, and intimidation across borders.
Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree announced the decision on Monday, underscoring that acts of terror targeting specific communities have no place in Canada.
The designation empowers Canadian authorities to freeze or seize assets linked to the gang and prosecute individuals involved in financing, recruitment, or other forms of support.
The Bishnoi gang, which originated in India, has built a transnational footprint with activities extending into Canada’s diaspora communities.
Authorities say the group engages in murder, shootings, arson, and extortion, fostering fear and insecurity.
Officials added that the listing will bolster national security by curbing the gang’s reach and protecting vulnerable communities.
