In recent development, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is all set to assume a key global role as he prepares to take over the Chairship of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) for 2026.
Kumar will formally assume the position on December 3, 2025, during a meeting of the Council of Member States in Stockholm, Sweden.
As Chair, he will preside over all Council meetings throughout 2026, representing India at the forefront of global electoral governance and democratic cooperation.
