Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Tuesday reviewed the situation at the Bilaspur train accident site over a video call, hours after a passenger train collided with a goods train near Bilaspur station.
The tragic incident, which occurred around 4 pm, claimed eight lives and left at least 14 others injured, officials said.
Authorities rushed rescue teams and medical support to the location, with injured passengers shifted to Apollo Hospital and CIMS in Bilaspur.
One of the victims is reportedly in critical condition. “Two people are still trapped… 16–17 people are in serious condition. This is a big accident,” Bilaspur Collector Sanjay Agrawal told ANI.
The CM instructed officials to ensure immediate treatment for the injured and expedite rescue efforts.
This marks the second rail mishap reported today, heightening concerns over railway safety in the region.
