Chris Woakes retires from international cricket after 14-year career

Chris Woakes has announced his retirement from international cricket, closing a chapter on one of England’s most dependable careers.

Over 14 years, Woakes built a reputation as a consistent match-winner across formats, underlined by impressive numbers.

In 62 Test matches, Chris Woakes claimed 192 wickets at an average of 29.6, with five five-wicket hauls and best figures of 6/17.

His ODI record is equally distinguished: 173 wickets in 122 matches, including a career-best 6/45, while maintaining an economy of 5.43.

In the shortest format, Woakes represented England in 33 T20Is, bagging 31 wickets. He also featured in the IPL between 2017 and 2021, taking 30 wickets in 21 games.

A two-time World Cup winner, being part of England’s 2019 ODI and 2022 T20 triumphs,  Chris Woakes leaves the game as a symbol of reliability.

His balance of skill, discipline, and composure made him a cornerstone of England’s bowling attack.
