CJI BR Gavai’s sister says attack on him was an assault on the Constitution

Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai’s sister, Kirti Gavai, has strongly condemned the recent shoe-hurling incident in the Supreme Court, calling it “an attack on the Constitution of India” rather than a personal assault on her brother.

In a video statement on Tuesday, Kirti Gavai said, “The attack on the Chief Justice of India inside the Supreme Court is not on a personal level. It is an attack on the Constitution. The Constitution is our topmost priority, and it is our responsibility to protect it for future generations. We have to give them a safe India.”

The incident occurred on Monday when lawyer Rakesh Kishore attempted to throw a shoe at CJI Gavai during court proceedings.

Kishore later stated he was ready to go to jail but refused to apologise.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the act, calling it “reprehensible.”

Despite the disturbance, CJI Gavai remained composed, instructing court staff to “just ignore” the incident and continuing with the day’s hearings.
