Court gives police three weeks to file ATR in Reasi landslide case

A Katra court on Tuesday granted an additional three weeks to the Reasi district police chief and the Bhawan station house officer (SHO) to submit an action taken report (ATR) in the case related to the tragic landslide near Vaishno Devi that killed 34 pilgrims on August 26.

The order came after complainant Rohit Bali sought an FIR against Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board CEO Sachin Kumar Vaishya and other officials, alleging negligence.

On the court’s direction, the Bhawan SHO appeared and requested four more weeks, stating that the matter was sensitive and required a careful review of local inputs and official records.

He told the court that authorities were still examining whether the allegations warranted criminal or administrative action.

After hearing the request, the court granted a three-week extension and scheduled the next hearing for November 20.

The landslide, triggered by a cloudburst at Adhkuwari on the Vaishno Devi route, had also left 20 people injured.

A three-member probe committee was formed on August 29, but its report has not yet been made public.

Families of victims and pilgrims continue to seek accountability and safety assurances for the shrine route.
