Delhi Police arrest one for using forged foreign embassy number plate

The Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested a 45-year-old woman for allegedly using a forged foreign embassy number plate on her SUV to move freely through high-security areas of the national capital ahead of Republic Day.

The arrest was made on January 15 from Vasant Vihar, officials said on Friday.

According to police, the woman had fitted fake diplomatic (CD) number plates on a Toyota Innova after failing to legally re-register the vehicle, which she had earlier purchased from a foreign embassy.

Investigators said she used the forged plates to avoid routine checks and gain easy access to restricted diplomatic zones.

During questioning, the woman initially claimed to represent a foreign mission but failed to name the embassy or produce any supporting documents. She also did not possess valid ownership papers for the vehicle.

Police said the accused, a resident of Guwahati, claimed to be an all-India secretary of a political party and to be working as a consultant for African students seeking admission in India.

The vehicle, two sets of forged number plates and a mobile phone were seized. Police described the arrest as crucial from a security standpoint, especially ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, as security checks across the city have been intensified.
