DGCA likely to summon IndiGo CEO over massive flight disruptions

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is likely to summon IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers and COO Isidre Porqueras on Wednesday as part of its probe into the widespread nationwide flight disruptions, sources said.

The regulator is examining whether the airline violated government norms after more than 70 flights were grounded over the past five days, largely due to acute crew shortages triggered by the new Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) introduced on November 1.

Bengaluru was the worst affected, recording 150 cancellations on Monday alone, out of 562 cancellations across major metro airports, according to PTI.

IndiGo has cancelled hundreds of flights since last Tuesday, impacting lakhs of passengers. The airline, however, said operations were stabilising  on-time performance rose to 79.9% on Sunday and further improved to 91% on Monday, with over 1,800 flights operated.

The DGCA is expected to assess accountability and ensure full compliance with safety and staffing norms.
