DMK moves Supreme Court against SIR in Tamil Nadu

The ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu has moved the Supreme Court challenging the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls ordered by the Election Commission, PTI reported.

The move comes days after Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced the second phase of SIR across 12 states and Union Territories, including Tamil Nadu, on October 27.

The DMK argues that the revision process could lead to arbitrary deletions of voter names and alleged that the exercise is being carried out without adequate transparency or safeguards.

The party claims the move risks disenfranchising legitimate voters in the state.

Chief minister M K Stalin’s party has sought judicial intervention to halt the SIR process in Tamil Nadu, maintaining that revisions should follow proper verification to ensure fairness.

The petition is expected to be heard soon by the apex court.
