ECI revises EVM ballot paper design to aid voter clarity ahead of Bihar polls

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday announced revised guidelines for the design and printing of EVM ballot papers, aiming to make them clearer and more voter-friendly ahead of the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.

As per the new guidelines, candidates’ photographs on the EVM will be larger, with their faces occupying three-fourths of the allotted photo space for enhanced visibility.

ECI stated that the move is intended to improve readability and ensure voters can easily identify their chosen candidates.

“The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the existing guidelines under Rule 49B of the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961, for the design and printing of EVM ballot papers to enhance their clarity and readability,” the commission said in a statement.

The step marks the latest in a series of reforms, with the poll body noting it has introduced 28 initiatives in the past six months to simplify and improve the election process.
