Gill out for 2-ball duck, Jadeja’s woes with bat continues on Ranji trophy return

Both India captain Shubman Gill and veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja endured disappointing outings as they failed to make an impact on Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy sixth-round match between Punjab and Saurashtra.

Jadeja, leading Saurashtra, managed just seven runs off six deliveries before being caught, while Gill was dismissed for a second-ball duck. Batting at No. 3 for Punjab, Gill was trapped LBW by left-arm spinner Parth Bhut, leaving his side in early trouble after slipping to 73/4.

Earlier, Saurashtra were bowled out for 172 in 47.1 overs, with Punjab’s bowlers sharing the spoils. The twin failures added to growing concerns surrounding both players’ form at the international level.

Jadeja has struggled for consistency with the bat in recent months, while Gill continues to face scrutiny despite scoring back-to-back fifties during India’s recent 2–1 home series loss to New Zealand.

The Ranji Trophy resumed after a two-month break for white-ball tournaments, with two league rounds remaining before the quarter-finals begin on February 6.
