In a move aimed at supporting farmers, the government on Wednesday raised the minimum support price (MSP) of wheat by 6.59% to Rs 2,585 per quintal for the 2026-27 marketing season.
This marks an increase of Rs 160 from the previous year’s MSP of Rs 2,425 per quintal.
The decision, taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is expected to provide a crucial cushion to farmers against rising input costs.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the Cabinet also approved MSPs for six rabi crops based on recommendations from the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP).
Agricultural experts say the hike will bring much-needed relief to wheat growers, ensuring better returns and stability ahead of the rabi sowing season.
