Heavy rains cause widespread damage in Nagaland, NSDMA issues advisory

Nagaland has reported extensive damage to infrastructure following days of heavy rainfall, an official report confirmed on Tuesday.

Chumoukedima district was among the worst affected, with a mudslide at Pagla Pahar cutting off road connectivity and another slide reported near Old Chumoukedima Check Gate.

Rising waters of the Chathe River destroyed the bridge linking Chumoukedima and Seithekema and damaged several houses.

Flooding also hit Chumoukedima ward 10, T L Angami Park, and Virazouma village, while areas near Army Camp Shokhuvi faced severe waterlogging.

In Kohima district, multiple landslides disrupted roads including Kigwema-Mima-Chakhabama, Jotsoma-Khonoma, Viswema-Kidima-Pfutsero, and Tsiesema routes.

The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has forecast thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rainfall across the state until Thursday.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious amid the continuing risk of floods and landslides.
