The man initially accused in the alleged acid attack on a 20-year-old Delhi University student has claimed he was “falsely implicated” in what police have now identified as a staged incident.
“The entire incident was a conspiracy to trap me,” he told PTI, adding that he was at his workplace in Karol Bagh when the alleged attack occurred in northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar.
Delhi Police later confirmed that the attack had been orchestrated by the student’s father, Aqeel Khan, along with her uncle and brother, to falsely frame the man and his family.
Investigations revealed that Khan had poured a chemical on his daughter’s hand and bag before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle to mislead authorities.
CCTV footage, location data, and witness statements verified the accused man’s alibi, leading police to clear him of all suspicion.
Khan was subsequently arrested in a separate rape case filed by the man’s wife, who had earlier accused him of harassment and blackmail.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh said the investigation into the fabricated attack and related criminal conspiracy remains ongoing.
