‘I’m taking all the blame’: Lalu’s daughter exits politics and disowns family

Rohini Acharya, daughter of senior politician Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, on Saturday announced her decision to quit politics.

Her decision has come just a day after the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan suffered a major defeat in the 2025 Bihar Assembly election, securing just 25 seats. She confirmed the news through a post on X

In her X post, Rohini claimed that she was asked to accept blame by Sanjay Yadav, political advisor to Tejashwi Yadav, and Rajya Sabha MP Rameez.

I’m quitting politics and I’m disowning my family… This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do… and I’m taking all the blame,” she wrote, triggering a wave of reactions across Bihar’s political landscape.

Rohini Acharya has been one of the more vocal and visible faces of the RJD in recent years, particularly on social media, where she often defended her father and brother during political controversies.

Her exit comes at a time when the RJD is grappling with its poorest electoral performance in years.

National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a massive victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, winning more than 200 seats out of total 243 seats.

Nitish Kumar‘s JD(U) won 89 seats while BJP got 85 seats. Chirag Paswan‘s LJP(RV) secured 19 seats.
