A senior Iranian military official has issued a sharp warning to US President Donald Trump amid the arrival of American warships, aircraft carriers and fighter jets in the region, saying Washington would be unable to launch any surprise or decisive strike against Iran.
Speaking on Monday local time, the unnamed official said any US plan for a “limited, rapid and clean” military operation was based on flawed assumptions and a poor understanding of Iran’s military strength. The remarks were reported by Iran International, citing the Mehr News Agency.
“The notion of carrying out such an operation stems from incorrect assessments and an incomplete understanding of the defensive and offensive capabilities of the Islamic Republic,” the official said.
He added that any scenario relying on surprise or attempting to contain the scale of conflict would quickly spiral beyond the control of its planners.
The warning comes as a US aircraft carrier strike group led by the USS Abraham Lincoln moves closer to Iran, heightening regional tensions and fuelling concerns of a potential US-led military escalation.
