Kannada actor Darshan pleads for “poison” in court, cites dire prison conditions

Jailed Kannada film star Darshan on Tuesday made a dramatic plea before a Bengaluru court, asking to be given “poison” as he described the harsh conditions of his incarceration.

Appearing via video conference before the City Civil and Sessions Court in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case, Darshan alleged he had not seen sunlight for several days and was developing fungal infections on his hands.

The actor further claimed his clothes emitted a foul smell and that he was enduring severe hardships inside prison. His startling remarks came as the court adjourned the case to September 19 for framing of charges.

Darshan was arrested on August 14 after the Supreme Court revoked the bail earlier granted by the Karnataka High Court, citing concerns he could influence witnesses.

He, along with actress Pavithra Gowda and others, is accused of abducting and torturing 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan who allegedly sent obscene messages to Gowda.
