Uttar Pradesh Police on Friday, arrested a 48-year old man from Ballia district for allegedly luring people to convert to Christianity.
Reportedly, he was promising money, jobs and accommodation to people who converted to Christianity.
The accused, identified as Vinod Kumar from Baradih Lawai Patti village in the Bheempura area, was also accused of encouraging locals to break idols of Hindu deities.
The case was filed after a complaint by VHP’s district president Rajiv Singh, who alleged that Kumar, along with some outsiders, had been trying to persuade villagers to convert by offering benefits.
Bheempura Station Officer Hitesh Kumar said a case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act.
Ballia SP Omvir Singh confirmed that the accused was arrested from his home and sent to jail. Police also seized a Bible, old notebooks and a banner during the raid.
