The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Leh district administration and police authorities over allegations involving a minor Ladakhi girl from a tribal Buddhist community who went missing in late December.
According to the case proceedings dated January 2, the girl was later found in Srinagar with a Muslim boy and is currently under the supervision of a Child Welfare Committee, suffering from mental trauma.
The complaint, filed by Sagar Bhante from Bhopal, stated that the girl went missing on December 26, following which her family lodged an FIR at Khalatse police station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act.Â
The complainant sought an impartial investigation, justice for the victim and her family, and counselling along with medical, psychological and legal support.
Taking cognisance under Section 12 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, an NHRC bench led by member Priyank Kanoongo observed that the allegations prima facie indicate human rights violations and sought a detailed action-taken report from the authorities.
