In a shocking turn of events, India’s star athlete Neeraj Chopra was eliminated from the men’s javelin throw final at the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo on Thursday.
Battling difficult conditions as rain poured over the stadium, Chopra struggled to find his rhythm, registering throws of 84.03m, 83.65m, 84.03m, a foul, and 82.86m.
The Tokyo Olympics 2021 gold medallist, who entered the competition as the defending champion, looked visibly frustrated after his final attempt, grimacing on release before discarding his equipment in disappointment.
India’s hopes now rest on Sachin Yadav, who is currently placed fourth in the standings and chasing a historic medal.
Meanwhile, another major contender, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, champion at the Paris Olympics 2024, also failed to advance, making the final even more unpredictable.
