Noida Airport to open on October 30, first phase to connect 10 cities

The Noida International Airport at Jewar will be inaugurated on October 30, with commercial operations expected to begin within 45 days, announced Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu on Wednesday.

Speaking at the Yatri Sewa Diwas function at Hindon airport, Naidu said airlines are eager to operate from Jewar and at least 10 cities would be connected in the first phase. He added that the facility would also serve as a major cargo hub for the National Capital Region.

The project will be the NCR’s second commercial airport, spread over 1,334 hectares, after Delhi’s IGI. Phase one includes a single runway and a terminal with capacity for 12 million passengers annually, eventually scaling to 70 million.

Construction is in its final stage, with the runway and ATC tower complete. Baggage system, aerobridges, and e-gates have been installed, while interiors are being finished. The DGCA licence is the final approval pending

IndiGo and Akasa Air have already committed to operations, with routes to Mumbai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad under discussion. Originally targeted for 2024, the project faced delays but is now on track for launch.

Meanwhile, Naidu also announced free WiFi, libraries, and kids’ zones at all airports in India in the coming month.
