PM Modi targets Rahul over ‘traitor’ remark, calls it an insult to Sikhs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday strongly criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during his address in the Rajya Sabha over remarks calling Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu a “traitor.”

Without naming Gandhi directly, the Prime Minister said that many leaders had left the Congress over the years and the party itself had split multiple times, but none of them were branded as traitors. He alleged that the comment was made because Bittu is a Sikh, calling it a reflection of the Congress’ “enmity against Sikhs.”

PM Modi said Bittu was not personally hurt by the remark and had not attacked the Opposition in Parliament. However, he accused the Congress of insulting a leader whose family had made sacrifices for the nation.

“They insulted a man whose family was martyred for the country, just because he changed his political ideology,” the Prime Minister said.

The remarks sparked sharp reactions in the House, adding to the ongoing war of words between the government and the Opposition during his current address at the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
