Punjab Police ex-AIG in 3-day custody after role in false drug case

The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has taken retired assistant inspector general (AIG) of police Rachhpal Singh into three-day custody for allegedly framing a youth in a 2019 drug case.

This marks the second instance of misconduct against Singh, who was earlier chargesheeted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a 2017 case for falsely implicating four individuals in Amritsar.

According to ANTF AIG Jagjit Singh Saroya, the latest case concerns the arrest of Amarinderpal Singh of Marhi Tanda village in Gurdaspur, who was accused of possessing 200 grams of heroin.

The FIR, lodged on February 11, 2019, under the NDPS Act, was later found to be fabricated after Amarinderpal’s family approached senior officials.

A special investigation team was subsequently formed to probe the matter.
