RJD-Congress rift widens ahead of Bihar assembly polls

The Mahagathbandhan alliance in Bihar is showing visible cracks as the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress spar over seat-sharing and leadership ahead of the October-November assembly elections.

Internal discord came to the fore in Aurangabad’s Kutumba constituency, where Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Ram held a workers’ meeting on Saturday.

In a clear snub, RJD’s block and district presidents, along with former MLA Suresh Paswan, boycotted the event.

Two days later, Paswan convened a separate RJD strategy session, rallying party cadres and signalling the party’s growing assertiveness.

A former minister in the RJD government, Paswan has sought to re-establish the party’s dominance in the constituency.

The episode underscores mounting friction within the opposition bloc, with stalled negotiations and the absence of a common chief ministerial face raising doubts over the coalition’s ability to counter the NDA led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in the upcoming polls.
