Russia intensifies air strikes on Ukraine, targets train and energy sites

At least 30 people were injured after a Russian missile strike hit a passenger train in Ukraine’s northern Sumy region, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday.

The attack caused casualties among both passengers and railway staff, leaving carriages engulfed in flames and twisted metal.

Regional governor Oleh Hryhorov reported that the strike targeted a railway station as a train bound for Kyiv was approaching.

The site lies around 50 kilometres from the Russian border. Zelenskyy accused Moscow of deliberately attacking civilians, saying, “The Russians could not have been unaware that they were striking civilians.”

The assault comes as Moscow steps up air raids on Ukraine’s railway and energy infrastructure, which officials say have occurred almost daily over the past two months.

On Friday, Russia also launched one of its largest attacks yet, firing 381 drones and 35 missiles aimed at Ukraine’s energy facilities.
