Congress parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Monday strongly condemned the incident in the Supreme Court where a lawyer attempted to hurl a shoe at Chief Justice of India BR Gavai.
In her statement, Gandhi said, “No words are adequate to condemn the attack on the Honourable Chief Justice of India in the Supreme Court itself.
It is an assault not just on him but on our Constitution as well.” She added that while CJI Gavai has been gracious in handling the situation, the nation must stand united in solidarity with him, expressing “a deep sense of anguish and outrage.”
The attack occurred during the mention of cases before a bench led by CJI Gavai, and the lawyer was promptly stopped by security personnel.
The incident has sparked nationwide concern over safety and decorum in India’s highest court.
