Telangana techie shot dead by US police, family seeks help

Mohammed Nizamuddin, a 30-year-old man from Telangana was shot dead by police in California earlier this month following a scuffle with his roommate.

Nizamuddin, a native of Mahabubnagar district, moved to the US in 2016 for higher studies. After completing his MS at Florida College, he worked as a software professional and later relocated to California after a promotion.

His father, Mohammed Hasnuddin, said that the incident occurred on September 3. In a letter to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, he requested urgent help in bringing back his son’s mortal remains. “I came to know he was shot dead by Santa Clara Police. I don’t know the actual reasons why police shot him dead,” he wrote.

A relative told ANI that the scuffle began over an air conditioner and escalated into violence involving knives. When police arrived, they asked the occupants to raise their hands. One abided while Nizamuddin reportedly did not, after which police fired four rounds.

The family has appealed the Centre and Telangana government for assistance. MBT leader, Amjed Ullah Khan also shared the father’s letter online, seeking immediate action.
