TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar’s kin called for Bengal SIR hearings

Hearings under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal began on Saturday, triggering a political row after at least four family members of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP and Lok Sabha chief whip Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar were called by election officials.

Dastidar said her family would submit documents sought by the Election Commission of India (ECI), but alleged political targeting.

“If they can hit my family, imagine what will happen to a common man,” she said.

Her mother Ira Mitra, sister Piyali Mitra, and sons Biswanath and Baidyanath were summoned over discrepancies in the draft roll, officials said.

State minister Chandrima Bhattacharya accused the ECI of acting with the intent to delete voters, a charge rejected by the BJP, which said the exercise aims to clean up fake entries.

Officials said over three million voters will be called for hearings, which will continue till February 7, 2026, ahead of the final roll’s publication on February 14.
