U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday once again praised India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan’s leaders while reiterating his claim that he personally prevented a war between the two nuclear-armed neighbours earlier this year.
Speaking at a business conclave in Gyeongju, South Korea, Trump called Modi “the nicest-looking guy” who “looks like a father but is a killer, tough as hell.”
However, he described Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir as “great guys” and “fighters.”
Trump repeated his disputed assertion that he stopped India and Pakistan from “going at it” by threatening both nations with trade sanctions during May’s military escalation following India’s Operation Sindoor in Kashmir.
He also hinted that a new trade deal with India could be imminent despite ongoing tariff tensions.
India has repeatedly dismissed Trump’s claims, insisting that the ceasefire with Pakistan was achieved bilaterally through military channels without any third-party intervention.
Pakistan, on the other hand, has publicly welcomed Trump’s remarks, even humouring his desire for a Nobel Peace Prize nomination.
