Trump lands in Switzerland amid tensions with European allies

Amid strained ties between Washington and European capitals over Greenland, United States President Donald Trump arrived in Switzerland on Tuesday to attend the World Economic Forum.

Trump landed after briefly switching aircraft earlier in the day when Air Force One was forced to turn back due to a minor electrical issue. He is scheduled to attend a reception with global business leaders before addressing the WEF later this week.

The visit comes amid pushback from European allies following Trump’s renewed assertion that the US should take control of Greenland, a move that has drawn widespread criticism across Europe.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the European Union was “fully prepared” to respond to any tariff measures proposed by Washington.

At Davos, Trump is also expected to unveil the “Board of Peace,” a proposed body aimed at overseeing an end to the Israel–Hamas conflict in Gaza. European nations face the prospect of additional US tariffs if they decline to participate in the initiative
