U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday reaffirmed his strong ties with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India, even as talks intensify over trade tariffs.
Speaking to reporters in the United Kingdom alongside British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump said, “I am very close to India, I am very close to the PM of India. I spoke to him the other day. I wished him a happy Birthday. We have a very good relationship. He put out a very good statement.”
The remarks came in the backdrop of reports that the United States is considering rolling back the additional 25% tariff imposed on select Indian goods, likely after November 30.
The tariff removal, if confirmed, could significantly ease tensions between the two nations that had escalated following the trade duties.
