Gitanjali Angmo, wife of jailed Ladakh activist Sonam Wangchuk, on Monday countered allegations that her husband acted against national interests during last week’s statehood protests.
She shared two photos on X featuring Bangladesh’s interim leader Mohammed Yunus, one with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the other with Wangchuk questioning the double standard.
“If it’s okay for the honourable PM to meet Mohammed Yunus, why is it a problem when Sonam Wangchuk, India’s educator and innovator, meets him?” she wrote.
Authorities have cited Wangchuk’s references to youth-led protests in Nepal and last year’s student revolt in Bangladesh as evidence that he “provoked” the September 24 violence, which claimed four lives.
Wangchuk is currently lodged in Jodhpur prison under the National Security Act, allowing detention for up to 12 months without trial.
