Security forces neutralised 10 Naxals, including Central Committee member Manoj alias Modem Balkrishna, in an encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Gariyaband district on Thursday.
Confirming the development, SP Gariyaband Nikhil Rakhecha said the operation marked a major success against Maoist insurgents in the region.
Earlier, Raipur Range IG Amresh Mishra had stated that an encounter was underway between security personnel and Naxals, with intermittent exchange of fire and “a few Naxals likely dead.”
The clash has since resulted in the elimination of a significant number of insurgents, dealing a blow to the Maoist network.
The security operation is being seen as one of the most impactful strikes in recent months in Chhattisgarh, a state that has long been the epicenter of Left Wing Extremism. Further details on recoveries made from the encounter site are awaited.
