Late-night television in the U.S. has been shaken after ABC announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will go on “indefinite hiatus” following host Jimmy Kimmel’s controversial remarks about the death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
The decision, confirmed on September 17, comes just days after Kimmel addressed the killing of Kirk during the September 15 episode, sparking backlash.
Kirk, 31, co-founder and president of the right-wing youth organisation Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University.
During his monologue, Kimmel said the “MAGA Gang” was trying to politicize the tragedy, a comment that drew sharp criticism from conservatives.
The recent chaos made ABC restructure its late-night programming. As reported by Variety, Steve Harvey’s Celebrity Family Feud will fill in the 11:35 PM slot until the channel finds a long-term replacement for the popular talk show.
