India’s star batter and T20I skipper, Suryakumar Yadav has described the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise as more than just a team – calling it a “Gurukul” that shapes players with discipline, values, and resilience.
In a recent interview with journalist Vimal Kumar, Suryakumar reflected on his journey with the five-time IPL champions, crediting MI for moulding him into a complete cricketer.
“Mumbai Indians – it’s a Gurukul, an institution that teaches discipline and values where players are made. In that family, students come, study, perform under pressure, and win matches. Tilak (Varma) is one such graduate,” Suryakumar said.
Having been part of the MI setup since 2018, Suryakumar has won two IPL titles with the franchise in 2019 and 2020.
The dynamic right-hander also completed his first major leadership assignment successfully, guiding India to victory in the 2025 Asia Cup after defeating Pakistan in the final, adding another milestone to an already remarkable career.
