In a major political development, all ministers in the Gujarat government resigned on Thursday, except Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, paving the way for a cabinet reshuffle expected on Friday.
According to officials, the mass resignation is part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) plan to restructure the state cabinet and infuse new energy into the administration ahead of key political challenges.
The state currently has 17 ministers, including eight cabinet-rank members and eight ministers of state.
Sources said around 10 new ministers are likely to be inducted, while nearly half of the current ministers may be replaced. The Gujarat assembly, with 182 members, allows a maximum of 27 ministers – 15 per cent of its total strength.
Party insiders said the move reflects BJP’s strategy to balance regional representation, reward performance, and strengthen its governance team under Bhupendra Patel’s leadership.
