Australia captain Alyssa Healy has been ruled out of Wednesday’s ICC Women’s World Cup match against England after suffering a calf strain during training on Saturday.
Head coach Shelley Nitschke confirmed that vice-captain Tahlia McGrath will lead the side in Healy’s absence.
“It’s really unfortunate for her, just a slight calf strain,” Nitschke said on Tuesday, adding that the team will assess Healy’s recovery daily ahead of their final league match against South Africa on Saturday.
Healy, who has scored 294 runs in four innings and sits atop the tournament’s run charts, will be hoping to regain fitness before the semifinals next week.
The injury comes as another setback for the 35-year-old, who missed last year’s T20 World Cup semifinal and several bilateral series due to previous injuries.
Both Australia and England have already secured their spots in the semifinals of the tournament.
