A high-profile family dispute has erupted after Haryana Police booked former Punjab DGP (Human Rights) Mohammad Mustafa, his wife and ex-minister Razia Sultana, and their daughter in connection with the alleged murder of their 35-year-old son, Aqil Akhtar, in Panchkula.
Aqil was found unconscious at his Sector 4 home on October 16 and declared dead on arrival at Civil Hospital.
The investigation took a turn after a complaint surfaced citing Aqil’s August social media post, where he allegedly accused family members of plotting against him.
However, Mustafa has dismissed the allegations as “false and politically motivated,” asserting that “an FIR does not prove guilt.”
Mustafa claimed Aqil was “not mentally stable” and had contradicted his earlier claims in an October video, denying any threats from his family.
Mustafa said his son had long battled drug addiction, having been admitted to multiple rehabilitation centres and even suffering organ damage after consuming acid in 2008.
“The truth will come out soon,” he said, as Haryana Police formed a five-member SIT to probe the case impartially.
