BCCI likely to match men’s World Cup bonus if India lift women’s title

The Indian women’s cricket team is one win away from not only creating sporting history but also securing one of the biggest financial rewards ever offered in women’s cricket.

Ahead of Sunday’s ICC Women’s ODI World Cup final against South Africa in Navi Mumbai, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly planning to award the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side a cash prize on par with the men’s team, should they win the title.

According to PTI, senior BCCI officials have indicated that the board is prepared to match the bonus given to Rohit Sharma’s squad after their T20 World Cup triumph last year, a record ₹125-crore package for players and support staff.

The move would extend the board’s equal-pay philosophy beyond match fees to performance-based rewards, marking a significant milestone for gender parity in Indian sport.

The potential payout stands in stark contrast to 2017, when each member of the Indian women’s team received ₹50 lakh after finishing runners-up at Lord’s.

With stars like Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana leading a confident unit, a win on November 2 would bring not just a maiden World Cup trophy but also an unprecedented financial celebration, highlighting a transformative moment for women’s cricket in India.
