Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday handed over keys and allotment letters for 72 flats constructed on land reclaimed from the illegal possession of late gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari in Lucknow’s Dalibagh area.
The homes, developed under the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Housing Scheme, were allotted to economically weaker section (EWS) families during a ceremony at Ekta Van in Jiamau.
Calling the initiative a “symbol of justice for the poor and punishment for the mafia,” Yogi said the move underlined the state’s resolve to free encroached land and utilise it for public welfare.
“The poor will now live on land once occupied by the mafia. Such times are over when criminals grabbed public or private land with impunity,” he said.
The chief minister also announced the establishment of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Employment Centres across all 75 districts to link youth with local jobs through skill development and industrial clusters.
Reiterating his government’s zero-tolerance stance against organised crime, Yogi said Uttar Pradesh has seen a “fundamental transformation” since 2017, with mafia networks dismantled and illegally held property reclaimed for public benefit.
