Here’s why flights at Delhi Airport are delayed by over 12 hours

On Friday, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport is witnessing chaos as a major technical glitch in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system has resulted in delays of over 12 hours for some flights and leaving thousands of passengers stranded.

The issue at the Delhi Airport began with a malfunction in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), a critical system that automatically feeds flight plan data to the Auto Track System (ATS) used to manage air traffic, officials confirmed.

When the AMSS failed, flight plans had to be processed manually, slowing down operations and causing a ripple effect across both domestic and international routes.

As per the official statement issued by Airports Authority of India (AAI), flight operations at Delhi Airport are experiencing delay due to a technical issue in AMSS which supports Air Traffic Control data.

The IT Ministry has ruled out the possibility of a cyber attack, stating that the disruption was purely technical.

The glitch has not only hit flight schedules at Delhi Indira Gandhi Airport but has also affected overall air traffic across India and several international connections.
