National captial Delhi, continued to reel under worsening air quality on Saturday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) hovering in the ‘very poor’ category for the past week.
According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s overall AQI stood at 355 at 8 am, while Bawana recorded the worst reading at 410. Dwarka, with an AQI of 201, fared relatively better.
In response to the rising pollution, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has banned the entry of all non-Delhi-registered BS-III and below-standard commercial goods vehicles into the city starting November 1.
Only vehicles meeting BS-IV standards or higher will be allowed, as part of efforts to reduce vehicular emissions.
Additionally, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced changes to the working hours of Delhi government and municipal offices to ease traffic congestion.
Currently, both offices operate within half an hour of each other, leading to peak-hour jams.
The government said staggering office timings will help distribute traffic more evenly, aiming to curb vehicular pollution and ease the capital’s toxic air crisis.
