At least seven people have succumbed and several others got injured after a container truck lost control and rammed into multiple vehicles near Navale Bridge on the Pune-Bengaluru Highway on Thursday evening.
According to Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, the heavy vehicle veered out of control before crashing into several cars and two-wheelers.
Following the collision, two to three heavy vehicles caught fire, causing chaos on the busy highway.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Sambhaji Kadam said rescue operations are currently underway, and the injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities are working to identify the deceased and determine the cause of the accident. Traffic movement in the area remains disrupted as emergency teams continue clearing the wreckage.
