BJP says Karnataka govt in ‘collapse’ amid Congress CM tussle

Karnataka BJP president BY Vijayendra on Monday accused the ruling Congress government of slipping into “complete administrative collapse” due to an intensifying internal tussle over the chief minister’s post.

Claiming that “seven to eight senior Congress legislators and ministers” were vying for the top job, he alleged that governance had taken a back seat.

Despite the turmoil, he clarified that the BJP had “no intention to form the government,” acknowledging the 2023 mandate given to Congress.

Vijayendra also criticised the Siddaramaiah-led government for “abandoning” farmers affected by rains and floods, saying ministers had neither visited the damaged regions nor provided relief.

He further accused the Congress of hiding its failures by blaming the Centre, alleging it had not submitted mandatory progress reports required to receive central scheme funds.

The attack came a day after Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar dismissed talk of a rift with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Following a breakfast meeting with the CM, Shivakumar said there were “no differences” and the party was focused on long-term planning for the 2028 Assembly and 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

However, the opposition called the show of unity mere optics. Union minister Pralhad Joshi said internal tensions had “intensified,” fuelling speculation over a leadership rotation midway through the government’s term.
