Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday sought to put an end to speculation over a leadership change in the state, tweeting that he and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah “continue to work together as a team.”
Shivakumar said he has invited the CM for breakfast on Tuesday to “strengthen collective efforts” to deliver on the Congress government’s promises.
His statement comes days after intense speculation over a possible power shift, with rumours resurfacing about an alleged agreement for Shivakumar to take over as chief minister midway through the five-year term.
Last week, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge refused to comment on the matter, saying internal issues would not be discussed publicly.
The Congress government crossed its half-term mark recently, reigniting debate over the reported power-sharing formula.
While Siddaramaiah has maintained he will serve the full term, Shivakumar’s tweet signals an attempt to project unity amid the ongoing political chatter.
